All students are eligible for a Personal Curriculum (PC) with different populations of students falling under different rules for modifications allowed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">The latest data indicate that the use of the PC has risen steadily since the inception of the MMC<br \/>\nin 2006, and during the 2019-2020 school year 10,311 students used a PC to modify the MMC to<br \/>\nsuit their post-school needs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.michigan.gov\/mde\/-\/media\/Project\/Websites\/mde\/Academic-Standards\/MMC\/Personal-Curriculum\/PC_Parent_Educator_Guide.pdf?rev=306540a8b6de4bbba90e922429f37d23&amp;hash=79A41DE97A7F6A0506444079D2D13A42\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for a guide developed by the Michigan Department of Education<\/a> to help educators, students, and parents understand when it may be appropriate to use a personal curriculum (PC) option to modify the Michigan Merit Curriculum (MMC) requirements. State statute allows personal curriculum modification in order to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"green-squared\">\n<li class=\"lead\">Go beyond the academic credit requirements by adding more math, science, English language arts, or world languages credits; or completing a department-approved formal career and technical education program.<\/li>\n<li class=\"lead\">Modify the State Content Standards for Mathematics.<\/li>\n<li class=\"lead\">Modify, when necessary, the credit requirements of a student with an Individualized Education Program (IEP).<\/li>\n<li class=\"lead\">Modify credit requirements for a student who transfers from out of state or from a nonpublic school and is unable to meet the MMC requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Personal Curriculum The Personal Curriculum is a tool for modifying the Michigan Merit Curriculum in order to individualize the rigor and relevance of the state graduation requirements.
