ACTIVITES & CLUBS

Whether it’s joining the National Junior Honor Society, Art Club or Student Government, discovering one’s passions is part of the magic of life. Summit Academy North Middle School provides opportunities for students to pursue their interests and realize their potential through the following clubs and activities:

NATIONAL ELEMENTARY HONOR SOCIETY (NEHS)

NEHS gives 4th and 5th graders the chance to come together with students who share their commitment to academic excellence, personal responsibility, school service and community leadership. To become inducted into NEHS, students must fill out an application, write an essay, get references and meet academic and discipline standards. Students meet monthly with a teacher/advisor to discuss leadership opportunities and engage in community service projects. NEHS prepares students for NJHS in middle school, NHS in high school, and even college.

JOB CORP

Job Corp gives 4th and 5th grade students the opportunity to take on various real-life jobs at school. Students fill out applications and get references to apply for available jobs, which include tour guide, school store manager, mail delivery specialist, banker and more. Students love taking on these important leadership roles in our school.

DRAGONITES RUNNING CLUB

On your mark! Get set! GO! The Dragonites Running Club gives elementary students exposure to cross country running at a young age. Students are taught long-distance running techniques and compete in several meets throughout the Downriver Area. The goal of the club is to prepare young runners to compete in Middle School and High School, as well as to help them to develop healthy life-long habits.

DRUG AWARENESS AND RESISTANCE EDUCATION (DARE)

Sponsored by the school and a local police department, DARE is a program dedicated to teaching 5th grade students the importance of staying drug and alcohol free. The goal is to give students access to information and strategies that help them make good decisions. A liaison officer visits to educate students on the effects of drugs and alcohol, how to avoid common peer pressure tactics, and more. At the end of the class, students write an essay about what they have learned and participate in a graduation ceremony!

NEWCOMER’S CLUB

The Newcomer’s Club gives new students the chance to meet others in their grade. At meetings, students are introduced to our RESPECT Motto, academic and behavioral expectations, fun upcoming events and more. The club is run by teacher advisors and often features “guest speakers” — long-time Summit students who want to share their experiences with their new peers. We hope this club helps students grow comfortable at their new school.

KARATE CLUB

Summit Karate Club teaches students self-defense techniques, as well as teamwork and long-term physical and mental health. The club does this by focusing on the traditional aspects of Karate. Classes concentrate on building proficiencies in Kihon (Basics), Kata (Forms) and Kumite (Controlled Sparring). You must be in 5th grade or higher to join.

Clubs for Parents

FAMILY ACTION COMMUNICATION TEAM (FACT)

FACT gives parents a chance to become involved in their child’s education and help the school as a whole. FACT hosts several family events including movie nights, ice cream socials, dances and holiday activities which give our students, parents and staff the opportunity to get to know each other outside of the classroom. FACT also raises funds for a variety of school needs that change from year to year. FACT always welcomes new faces at their monthly meetings!

SUMMIT ACADEMY D.A.D.S. (DADS OF ACADEMICALLY DEDICATED STUDENTS)

Our mission is to increase participation and volunteering of fathers and father-figures, provide college and career mentoring for elementary students, and establish positive male role models.
